Albanian IP Office implements CP9

The General Directorate of Industrial Property (GDIP) of the Republic of Albania has implemented the European Union’s Common Practice CP9 (Distinctiveness of three-dimensional marks (shape marks) containing verbal and/or figurative elements when the shape is not distinctive in itself).

Japan introduced lumpsum fee payment for Madrid users

Madrid users designating Japan in their international applications for trademark registration with a filing date on or after 1 April 2023 will have to pay a lump-sum individual fee, instead of two-part individual fees under the Madrid Protocol.

Mauritius to charge individual fee under Madrid Protocol

Madrid Protocol fees revised for Switzerland

Pursuant to the provisions of the Common Regulations under the Madrid Agreement and Protocol Concerning the International Registration of Marks, the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization on 1 March 2023 notified revised individual fees applicable when Switzerland is designated in an international application or in an application for renewal of international registration or is a subject of subsequent designation.

On 1 January 2023, the Taiwanese Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) updated its list of Description of Designated Goods and Services for Trademark Registration on its electronic trademark application system in line with the Nice Classification.
